USA versus Russia in the midst of the cybercrime war

US President Joe Biden announced in July that he warned Russian President Vladimir Putin about the rampant cases of ransomware attacks. Back then, Russia was seen as the nest of cyber criminals planning security threats around the world.

This month, the Kaseya cyber crime occurred, in which the hackers compromised more than 1,500 companies.

Biden pledged to punish the Russia-affiliated group that was responsible for the majority of cybercrime in the United States. It would also mean sanctioning Putin who failed to reveal his plans amid ransomware attacks.

US Chases DarkSide Ransomware Squad

Earlier this month the department said it would offer a $ 10 million reward for the identity of the people behind the DarkSide ransomware group. In addition to the said bounty, the US would provide an additional $ 5 million to help convict the suspects.

The DarkSide ransomware crew is said to be a squad of All-Russian hackers who exploited the Colonial Pipeline a few months ago. The large-scale attack resulted in the sudden shutdown of the system across the country.

Aside from the controversial attack, the same group was responsible for the data breach that hit Guess, a famous American clothing company.
