CHICAGO (NewsNation Now) – Dozens of busy major websites, including FedEx, HBO Max, and Amazon, were reportedly unavailable Thursday morning.
According to DownDetector, significant issues were encountered in at least 44 locations at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday CT. From 11:45 a.m. CT. many of the affected websites began to come back online.
The companies affected included finance, entertainment, travel, retail, and basic web functions such as Amazon Web Services.
The direct cause of the failure remains unknown, however Akamai’s global content delivery network has confirmed a widespread problem with its Edge DNS service.
In a statement, Akamai said they were aware of “an emerging issue with the Edge DNS service.”
