The Intel ANV Vulkan driver has received updates to improve its compatibility with the Zink OpenGL-on-Vulkan driver. Intel driver engineer Paulo Zanoni recently implemented a series of fixes and improvements to enhance Vulkan support within the ANV driver. These changes aim to address various bugs within the Zink driver and improve overall compatibility.

Mike Blumenkrantz, the lead developer of Zink, also made a significant change by disabling the 2D_VIEW_COMPATIBLE+sparse functionality, which has resulted in improved performance on Intel hardware. This update is expected to enhance the implementation of the OpenGL API that runs on top of the Vulkan API.

The recent changes have already been merged into the Intel ANV driver, signaling progress in Zink’s collaboration with Intel on the Linux platform. While Intel currently maintains its Iris Gallium3D driver for OpenGL support on new hardware, there is a growing emphasis on Vulkan support, with Zink potentially playing a crucial role in the future.

It is anticipated that the upcoming release of Mesa 24.2 in August will further bolster support for the Intel ANV driver in conjunction with Zink. This development highlights the ongoing effort to expand Vulkan compatibility and improve the overall user experience on Intel hardware.
