Super Nintendo World, the Mario and Friends themed area at Universal Studios Japan, was slated to open on February 4th next month. However, due to the state of emergency declared in Osaka, this will not be the case.

This isn’t the first time the park has delayed. It was originally scheduled to open in the summer of 2020, but after last year’s state of emergency Repulsed.

The last announcement was made today on USJ’s official page::

The opening of Super Nintendo World has been postponed.

We’ll announce the new opening date soon after the state of emergency is lifted in Osaka Prefecture.

A preview was held for the park last November and shows visitors what to expect.

With Covid-19 cases still increasing in Japan, this is a state of emergency was explained yesterday for Osaka and the surrounding prefectures. This comes after a similar announcement was made last week for the Tokyo metropolitan area and as new variant of the novel coronavirus was recently discovered at Haneda Airport.

The current State of emergency declaration for Osaka, the will for Japan ends on February 7th.
