UK regulator to investigate HP Enterprise’s possible $14 billion purchase of Juniper

The UK Competition and Markets Authority is currently investigating Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s proposed $14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks. The CMA is concerned that the merger could potentially lead to a significant decrease in competition within the UK market. Interested parties have until July 3 to provide comments for the Phase 1 of the investigation, with a decision expected by August 14 on whether to move forward with a Phase 2 investigation. Despite Juniper shareholders approving the deal in April, regulatory hurdles still need to be addressed. HP Enterprise’s $40 per share cash offer for Juniper was announced in January. The deal is not expected to require approval in China due to its size falling below the country’s threshold for review. Recent reports on the US regulatory review have also caused speculation around the status of the acquisition.
