The UK has ordered an investigation into NVIDIA’s $ 40 billion acquisition of Cambridge-based chip maker Arm over national security concerns.

UK digital secretary Oliver Dowden wrote to the country’s competition regulator, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), instructing them to open a Phase 1 investigation into the deal announced in September.

“After carefully reviewing the proposed acquisition of ARM, I issued a national security intervention notice today,” Dowden said in a statement.
