UK antitrust authorities investigate merger between HPE and Juniper

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation into HPE’s $14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks may not have a significant impact on data center administrators, according to John Annand of Info-Tech Research Group. The companies have different but complementary product lines, and the potential delay in approval will not disrupt data center upgrades scheduled for Q1 2025. Any new offerings resulting from the merger are likely to be speculative at best, with a focus on advancements in AIOps.

There is little overlap between HPE and Juniper’s product roadmaps, especially outside the telecommunications industry, where Juniper’s enterprise networking business is growing. The CMA’s Phase One investigation is still ongoing, with no clear hypothesis for potential interference with fair trading. The merger, which is expected to double HPE’s networking business, was seen as a significant move in the networking industry by industry experts.

The deal brings together HPE’s long history in the networking industry with Juniper’s network security technologies, expanding HPE’s offerings in DDoS protection, firewalls, and cloud security. While the acquisition is still in progress, both companies are expected to benefit from the combined expertise and product portfolios.
