Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın met with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh to discuss ceasefire negotiations and humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. They talked about securing a permanent ceasefire, exchanging prisoners and hostages, and providing aid to the region. Turkey, a strong supporter of Hamas, denounced Israel’s attacks on Gaza and criticized the West’s support for Israel.
Despite efforts to negotiate a ceasefire and release hostages, progress has been slow. A plan proposed by US President Joe Biden for a truce and prisoner exchange has not been accepted by both sides. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the offensive until Hamas is defeated and all hostages are freed. Hamas, on the other hand, demands a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Hamas official Osama Hamdan expressed frustration at the lack of progress in negotiations, calling the proposals a waste of time and accusing Israel of practicing genocide. The Israeli offensive has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties.
In the midst of ongoing violence and diplomatic efforts, the situation in Gaza remains volatile as both sides refuse to budge on their demands. Turkish support for Hamas continues as it seeks to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The international community watches closely as efforts to negotiate a ceasefire remain at a standstill.
