Trump “woke up” with a sudden change of heart.

Until Anthropic’s Mythos model raised alarm bells, the Trump administration described efforts to limit artificial intelligence as “woke.” Now it is trying to build its own building.

Earlier this week, the White House said it had reached an agreement with Google, Microsoft and xAI that would allow the U.S. Commerce Department’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation to conduct “pre-deployment assessments and targeted research” on AI models before they are published.

These reviews, it said, would allow the government to assess the performance of border models and their impact on national security. Donald Trump is considering issuing an executive order to formalize the government’s early access to the models.
