US President Donald Trump said on Friday he would order every federal agency to stop working with the artificial intelligence laboratory Anthropic, while the Pentagon declared it a risk to the supply chain.
In a post on Truth Social, Mr Trump said:
“I am directing EVERY federal agency in the United States government to IMMEDIATELY STOP all use of Anthropic’s technology. We don’t need it, we don’t want it and we won’t do business with them anymore!“
He added that there will be a six-month phase-out period for the Defense Department and other agencies that use the company’s products.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon’s supply chain risk rating, typically reserved for companies in adversary countries, means defense contractors could be prevented from using Anthropic’s AI in work for the Pentagon.
The defense industrial base includes tens of thousands of contractors, including large public companies.
