TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, has effectively transferred ownership of part of TikTok’s US operations to a majority American consortium of investors.
The framework names oracle Company, Silver Lake Management LLC and an Abu Dhabi-based investment firm MGX as the main company in the new company. According to TikTok, the list also includes other companies and Michael Dell’s personal investment companythe tech billionaire who founded Dell Technologies. Byte Dance will retain a non-controlling interest of around 19.9 percent.
The deal ensures the app will continue to operate in the U.S. while addressing long-standing U.S. national security concerns about privacy and possible foreign influence.
