TikTok will open a center in Europe where external experts will be shown information on how it handles content moderation and recommendation, as well as platform security and user privacy, it announced today.
The European Center for Transparency and Accountability (TAC) follows the opening of a US center last year – and is also billed as part of its “Commitment to Transparency”.
Shortly after the US TAC was announced, TikTok also created a Content Advisory Council on the market – and in March of this year replicated the structure of the advisory body in Europe with a different mix of experts.
It now fully replicates the US approach with a dedicated European TAC.
To date, according to TikTok, more than 70 experts and policymakers have taken a virtual US tour to learn operational details and ask questions about security measures.
