The TikTok app is currently experiencing “some problems,” according to the app Support account on Twitter in a post at 4:28 p.m. ET. The app team works “quickly on solving” the problems.
On the previous Tuesday, I was unable to log into the app on the internet or on my phone. When I tried I got this message, which downplayed the problem: “There is a small problem with the server, it will now be fixed.” Now I can sign in and use the iOS app as normal, but I can’t sign in to the web.
The TikTok app is currently experiencing a number of issues that our team is working on to resolve. Thanks for your patience!

Although the problems seem to have been resolved to some extent, they used to seem fairly widespread, with over 40,000 user reports of problems on DownDetector in one place.
There are also plenty of people on Twitter who are still talking about that # tiktokdown hashtag. I have to say the memes on this hashtag are pretty good – if you’re looking for something to do instead of hanging around on TikTok, scrolling through the Twitter posts about the service outage might be a fun alternative.

Update July 6, 6:41 p.m. ET: TikTok seems to be recovering but is still experiencing some issues.
