LG, Hyatt, and Google have collaborated to bring Google Cast functionality, akin to a built-in Chromecast, to LG hotel TVs starting this fall through a software update. This move follows Apple’s introduction of AirPlay in IHG hotels, with Google aiming to enhance the hotel room experience for travelers by allowing them to easily access their personal content and subscription services while on the go.

The announcement was made at the HITEC 2024 trade show, where LG and Hyatt were introduced as launch partners for this initiative. Google’s Senior Director of engineering for multi-device experiences, Tiger Lan, emphasized that integrating Google Cast capabilities into LG hotel TVs will provide hotel operators with a cost-effective solution that enables guests to seamlessly resume their personal streaming services.

Google Cast in hotel TVs will function similarly to a regular Chromecast, supporting connectivity with mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, as well as PCs. With compatibility across over 3000 cast-enabled apps for both video and music content, guests will have the flexibility to stream movies from platforms such as Disney+, Max, and Netflix, or enjoy music from services like Spotify.

To initiate the Google Cast feature, guests will need to scan a QR code displayed on the TV to establish a cast connection. Through their mobile device or the TV remote control, guests can then control playback functions like play/pause and volume. Additionally, the TV will automatically reset once guests check out, ensuring a seamless experience for the next occupant.

LG has confirmed that the Google Cast feature will be accessible on its latest ‘Pro:Centric smart hotel TVs’ ranging from 43 to 75 inches, with an update set to be rolled out this fall in the US, starting in select Hyatt Hotels Corporation properties. The availability of this feature is expected to expand to more hotels and countries in the future.

In conclusion, the partnership between LG, Hyatt, and Google signifies a significant step towards enhancing the in-room entertainment experience for hotel guests. By introducing Google Cast functionality in hotel TVs, travelers can enjoy a personalized streaming experience, thereby improving their overall stay experience while on the go.
