The UK opens national security investigation into Nvidia’s takeover of the chip designer arm

The UK government has launched a six-month investigation into Nvidia’s takeover of Cambridge, England-based chip designer Arm, for national security reasons.

The $ 40 billion deal to purchase the semiconductor companies that power SoftBank’s smartphones, tablets, and countless other devices was announced in September 2020 but is now facing a series of antitrust reviews that must be approved.

The UK’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport announced on Tuesday that it would ask the UK antitrust authority, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), to conduct a six-month in-depth review of the agreement on competition and national security concerns.
