While there are a few companies out there now bringing out foldable phones, it’s hard to deny that Samsung is still at the forefront with no fewer than four models. It is expected to bring out the third generation of such phones this year, but there is still some sort of foldable device that is missing from its portfolio. However, if any recent leaks are to be expected, a Galaxy Z Fold tablet is already in the works, and its existence may have just been confirmed by Samsung itself.
OK, Samsung hasn’t exactly confirmed the Galaxy Z Fold Tab leaked last week, at least not directly. What LetsGoDigital actually saw was a simple clue found in an application for the Galaxy Z Fold brand in Europe. This filing suggests that the brand will be used for smartphones and tablets, which most people already know, at least for the smartphone part.
Noteworthy here is the mention of “tablets”, which Samsung has not yet spoken about in detail. Of course, tablets that fold up into phones have always been part of the foldable dream, but the current incarnations of this vision are mostly limited to small tablet sizes as it still requires a phone that you can comfortably hold in one hand. The solution seems to be to fold the tablet more than once.
The Galaxy Z Fold Tab, if it’s called that, is expected to have a tri-fold design, making a full-size tablet roughly 10 inches tall. This will allow it to shrink to the size and shape of a phone, although it will most likely be thick.
The fact that Samsung is only now registered for a trademark because the name Z-fold suggests that it should be used in a larger sense. However, it should be noted whether this Galaxy Z Fold Tab will be included in July’s event.
