Deputy Technology Minister Andrew Charlton says Australia’s copyright laws are not working and has given the clearest indication yet that Labor will overhaul the system to give rights holders more power to go after the artificial intelligence giants.

Attorney General Michelle Rowland has led consultations with industry and copyright groups on reforms, including proposals for a new enforcement system that would make it easier for small rights holders to go after tech giants like Google, Meta, Anthropic and OpenAI for using their works without compensation.
