IIt began with an image of Trump as king featured on a fake cover of Time magazine. Since then, it has evolved into a full-blown phenomenon that scientists call “slopaganda” — an unholy combination of readily available AI tools and political messaging. “Shitposting,” the posting of intentionally crude, offensive content online to provoke a reaction, has reached the level of “institutional shitposting,” according to Don Caldwell, editor of Know Your Meme. This is trolling as official government communication. And no one is more adept at this than the Trump administration – an administration that has not only given the AI industry all the regulatory freedom it wanted, but has also used the technology for its own internal purposes.
