The Queensland government department has been branded “lazy” for its “ironic” use of AI

A Queensland government agency’s decision not to disclose its use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create social media posts has prompted warnings about the importance of transparency as the technology evolves.

An illustration featuring a floating fishing rod and nonsensical text was posted on Fisheries Queensland’s social media accounts warning against relying on information provided by AI.

The headline read: “Don’t trust AI with your fishing rules.”

Tama Leaver, professor of internet studies at Curtin University, said the post was “ironic”

“It was a post created by AI on the topic of ‘Don’t trust AI,'” he said.

The ABC has discovered at least four posts from Fisheries Queensland’s Instagram and Facebook pages late last year were created using AI image generators.
