While Google pixel watch was teased Google OKwe’ve only heard select details about the watch, and more information is coming from leaks and reports ahead of the wearable’s full launch.
For example, we just heard about the watch’s straps. Coming from 9to5Google (opens in new tab)which appears to have received information on the various straps and bracelets that Google is preparing for the watch.
Apparently, the company is preparing at least seven different styles of watch straps for its upcoming smartwatch, although 9to5Google says not all of them might actually launch. These appear to be variants that you can buy later, not the in-box variants.
The website mentions some of the options that Google is preparing. This includes an equivalent to the Apple Watch’s Milanese Loop, which would likely be the highest-end option for sale (probably with a hefty price tag). There are also silicone, link, stainless steel and two leather options.
Analysis: Different belts are important
Different types of straps are useful for different smartwatch users and situations, so it makes sense that Google is working on a range of them.
For example, straps made from synthetic materials are often better for training because they have a good grip and are often more breathable. Metal or leather straps are generally preferred as fashion statements for their looks, but aren’t as useful for training.
It’s also possible that Google is working on different color variants of the aforementioned straps to give people even more choices for fashion or preference reasons.
With Samsung and Apple already making tons of straps for their smartwatches, Google would be lagging behind if it didn’t do the same, so this news was expected to some extent. But it’s good to know that the company has its bases covered – this gives the Pixel Watch a better chance of hitting our list of the best smartwatches.
