Earlier this week during its I/O developer conference, Google has released the second beta of Android 13 to its pixels. At the same time, a number of other Android device manufacturers were also launching their respective beta or developer preview programs for Android 13. While the announcement included mention of Nokia, the developer website hadn’t been updated at the time, so we didn’t know which device from the stable of HMD Global would be the blessed one.
That’s all changing today, and it’s the Nokia X20 which you can now test with Android 13 on board. Note, however, that HMD is calling this a developer preview, not a beta, so the polish level might leave something to be desired.
Also note that rolling back to Android 12 requires wiping all of your data at any time, so make sure you create a backup before attempting to try the Android 13 DP. There’s also the usual disclaimer that such builds may have performance and/or stability issues, so of course tackle this at your own risk.
If you really want to take the plunge, all you have to do is go to the My Device app on your Nokia X20, click the support banner below and scroll down to the Android developer preview. After a short IMEI check you can start. The new build will be provided as an over-the-air update within 12 hours of your registration.
If you can’t wait that long, starting 20 minutes after successful registration, you can manually try to download the build by going to Settings > About phone > System updates. Android 13 DP comes with a pre-installed customer feedback app that you can use to report any issues you find.
If at some point you need to roll back to Android 12, you can also request that through the My Device app.
