Along with the new sixth generation Apple TV announced during Apple’s special event on Tuesday, the company unveiled a new version of the Siri remote control. Despite the new design, the new Siri remote lacks a few sensors that some users may overlook: the accelerometer and gyroscope.

The new Siri remote looks very different from its predecessor. It has an aluminum housing and a clickpad that replaces the glass trackpad for gestures in tvOS. Apple also added a power button and a mute button, and moved the Siri button to the right side of the remote.

We already knew that the second generation Siri remote, as Apple calls it, doesn’t have a U1 chip or support for the Find My app – contrary to some predictions – but some technology has also been removed from the previous Siri remote .

Like Digital trendsThe Siri remote that comes with the new Apple TV lacks an accelerometer and gyroscope. These sensors were added to the original Siri remote to enable new gaming experiences that let users tilt the remote to perform certain actions, just like an iPhone or iPad can.

With tvOS now supporting Xbox and PlayStation controllers, it seems that Apple wants to encourage users who want to play games on the Apple TV to get a better gaming experience with a joystick instead of using the Siri remote. The first generation Siri remote will still work with the new Apple TV for those who prefer, but Apple is no longer officially selling this version.

Previous rumors have suggested this Apple is working on its own game controllerThis could be another reason the company is no longer promoting the Siri remote as an option for gamers.
