With the number of lawsuits being filed by self-represented litigants on the rise, the heads of some of Australia’s high courts are calling for greater involvement of artificial intelligence, while their colleagues at the Fair Work Commission blame the new technology for sparking a flood of bogus lawsuits.

In a speech, Federal Court Chief Justice Debra Mortimer acknowledged the rise in claims from people without legal representation, admitting that their use of AI for “legal advice and support” had led to “increased workloads and errors” for judges and staff.
