AI bullshit is here, it’s everywhere, it’s used by US President Donald Trump and now it’s the word of the year.
The Macquarie Dictionary named the term the quintessential linguistics of 2025. A committee of word experts said the result embodied the word of the year, which as a general theme reflects “an important aspect of society or social change during the year.”
“We now, in 2025, understand what we mean by slop – AI-generated slop that lacks meaningful content or utility,” the committee said in a statement announcing its decision.
“While in recent years we have learned to become search engineers to find meaningful information, we now need to become fast engineers to wade through AI weakness. In this sense, Slop will be a solid addition to English in the years to come.”
“The question is, will the people who ingest and regurgitate this content soon be called AI slobbers?”
