Microsoft developer Jerry Nixon assured the world in 2015 that Windows 10 would be the last major operating system the company would produce. Executive Vice President Terry Myerson wrote, “Once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10 we will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device — at no cost.”
They lied.
Microsoft stopped providing security updates to Windows 10 one month ago, on Oct. 14, strong-arming hundreds of thousands of people to upgrade their computers and producing possibly the largest pile of e-waste from a single decision in history.
Our rights as users of technology have been severely violated, and this anti-consumer choice has set the precedent for any company going forward to simply force you to spend the money and time to upgrade your devices.
