Google’s Pixel phones are known for their quick updates, but the December 2021 security patch brought a host of problems and also a mysterious delay for many that Google kept quiet about. Today the company finally confirmed that the December 2021 update has been paused for Pixel 6, and fixes are coming next week.

In a forum post, Google confirms that the December 2021 update has been paused for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The company does not disclose how long the update was paused, but given that most of our readers stated that they had not yet received the update in a poll last week.

The reason the December update rollout was paused is attributed to call issues on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, presumably the same issues users reported earlier this month in Europe. A solution to these issues has now been found, and Google says the solution will arrive in January along with all the other changes and features that should come with the December update. Following the company’s usual pattern, this update is very likely to arrive on the first Monday of the month that lands on January 3, 2022.

The Pixel team paused the December software update for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices after some users reported calls being dropped or disconnected. We have now identified a fix that will be rolled out in a software update by the end of January. This update also contains all the fixes and improvements that were originally planned for December. If you received the December software update for the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro and you are still having mobile connectivity issues, you can use the Android Flash Tool (flash.android.com) and perform a factory reset. Please back up your phone before restoring the previous software version. If there are no issues with mobile connectivity, then no action is required. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we roll out the fix.
