Macquarie strategist Viktor Shvets has a theory about the speed at which stock market winners and losers can emerge in a world where abundant capital has merged with incredible technology.
“Today it is much easier to build large, profitable companies than ever before: what took decades can now be done in quarters or years,” he says. “However, this means that it is just as easy to destroy large companies with all the profits going to the winners. A repricing of stocks is typically due to just one or two ‘right’ business decisions, while a ‘wrong’ turn could result in a massive downgrade.”
