The author of “Sapiens” says AI is about to create two crises for every country

AI technology is about to create two crises for every country, says the author of the bestselling book Sapiens: A Brief History of Humanity.

While delivering a talk on AI and humanity at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday, Yuval Noah Harari said that AI will throw humanity into an identity crisis as we have valued ourselves based on our ability to think, but AI may soon surpass us in this task.

Second, Harari said that every country will face an immigration crisis, comparing AIs to immigrants, who bring benefits to a country, such as skills in medicine and teaching, but along with those benefits also bring disruptions.

“Those who worry about human immigrants usually argue that immigrants might take jobs, change local culture, or be politically disloyal. I’m not sure that’s true for all human immigrants, but it’s certainly true for AI immigrants,” he said.
