HPE is introducing a new virtualization capability for its GreenLake Private Cloud customers, including a new kernel-based virtual machine developed by HPE. This offering will utilize GreenLake’s control plane and cluster management for operations, providing high availability even when offline from the cloud. Simon Robinson from TechTarget’s Enterprise Strategy Group notes that HPE will be competing against established players like Nutanix AHV and VMware vSphere. The capacity will be available by the end of 2024 with subscription options ranging from self-managed to fully managed services.

HPE’s virtualization capability will offer automated virtual machine lifecycle management and integration with other GreenLake technologies such as HPE Alletra MP Storage, Zerto for data protection, and Operations ramp for IT operations management. The development was driven by customer demand for a comprehensive GreenLake stack. The launch is not in response to market uncertainties following Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware.

HPE’s investment in virtualization reaffirms its commitment to hybrid cloud infrastructure and bringing cloud-based technologies to customers’ data centers. The company aims to provide the best solutions by collaborating with leading vendors in the space. The offering is part of HPE’s customer-first strategy and aligns with its focus on providing generative AI technologies to enable workloads to move to data centers rather than the other way around.

Overall, the new virtualization capability for HPE GreenLake Private Cloud customers aims to enhance operations, increase availability, and provide an integrated solution for hybrid cloud infrastructure needs.
