Infinidat is updating its main line of storage arrays, transitioning from Intel to AMD architecture and introducing an entry-level system to reach a broader market. The new G4 line promises twice the performance of the previous generation and features a local driver update program called InfiniVerse Mobius.
The G4 arrays cater to secondary and colocation data centers, offering 155 terabytes of storage. Infinidat is now competing in the mid-range storage market with rivals like Dell PowerStore, while retaining features of a high-end system.
In addition to the hardware updates, Infinidat is expanding its public cloud storage software to Microsoft Azure, alongside enhancements to its InfiniVerse cloud management and InfiniSafe data protection software.
The Infinidat G4 arrays are built from the ground up, combining HDD and SSD in the InfiniBox G4 hybrid storage array and allowing for expansion with the InfiniBox SSA G4 all-flash array. The move from Intel to AMD processors is expected to bring performance benefits and lower prices for customers.
The company’s performance gains are attributed to its neural cache, which leverages deep learning for data placement. Industry analysts are surprised by Infinidat’s architectural shift but recognize the potential benefits it may bring.
Infinidat is also expanding its InfiniVerse management software to include new subscription services for storage as a service, providing customers with a cloud-like experience for managing storage on-premises and in the cloud. The InfiniVerse Mobius program enables in-place driver updates to extend the lifecycle and performance of the array.
On the data protection front, Infinidat is enhancing its InfiniSafe Cyber Detection to detect threats on its backup device, InfiniGuard. Automation features will generate snapshots in response to security issues, with extended capabilities for VMware environments.
The updates reflect Infinidat’s focus on performance, cost-efficiency, and cloud integration, positioning the company to compete in a changing storage market landscape. The shift to AMD architecture, expansion into Microsoft Azure, and enhancements in data protection showcase Infinidat’s commitment to meeting evolving customer needs and staying competitive in the industry.
