It’s unclear which positions and locations will be affected by the layoffs, but CNBC reported that the job cuts are “in the thousands.” An Oracle spokesperson told SFGATE the company declined to comment.
The cuts reportedly began early Tuesday when workers were blindsided by abrupt email notifications, sources said Business Insider. The email obtained by the outlet noted that the company’s restructuring was the reason for the cuts.
“We are sharing with you some difficult news regarding your position,” the email said. “After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have decided to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change. Therefore, today is your last day of work.”
The California Employment Development Department did not respond to SFGATE’s request for Oracle WARN filings, which are generally required in the event of mass layoffs, at the time of publication.
