WASHINGTON, June 29 – Amazon remained the dominant global cloud computing company in 2020 as rivals such as Microsoft, Alibaba and Google gained ground in the fast-growing market, a research firm said.
A Gartner survey published yesterday found that the so-called “Infrastructure as a Service” market grew by 40.7 percent to 64.3 billion US dollars (267 billion RM) in the past year.
According to Gartner, Amazon held nearly 41 percent of the market last year, up from 45 percent in 2019, as sales rose 28 percent.
Microsoft – viewed as a rising rival in the industry – saw revenue grow nearly 60 percent to capture nearly 20 percent of the market.
Sid Nag, research vice president at Gartner, said the market is growing as more companies turn to cloud-based solutions and the trend accelerates during the pandemic.
