In recent years, social media has become more and more important in everyday life. Phenomena such as “doom scrolling” were named to highlight the addiction that certain individuals develop to following algorithms. There has been a push recently to move from short-form media to long-form media. Sites like Substack have skyrocketed because of their ability to show long-form media while educating and informing readers. But how much do these readers actually benefit from it and is it actually different from doomscrolling?
