Study shows that using AI in breast cancer screening reduces the rate of subsequent diagnosis by 12%

The use of artificial intelligence in breast cancer prevention reduces the rate of cancer diagnosis in subsequent years by 12% and leads to a higher early detection rate, according to the first study of its kind.

The researchers said the study is the largest to date looking at the use of AI in cancer prevention. It involved 100,000 women in Sweden who participated in mammography screening and were randomly assigned by two radiologists to either AI-assisted screening or a standard examination between April 2021 and December 2022.

The AI ​​system worked by analyzing the mammograms and assigning low-risk cases to a single measurement and high-risk cases to a double measurement by radiologists, as well as highlighting suspicious findings to assist radiologists.
