Three senior Kutztown University computer science and information technology students successfully implemented Amazon Alexa with Extron classroom audio and video systems to enable voice-controlled technology on campus.

KU students Justin Harris, William Henry and Hannah Moyer have completed their Classroom Technology or CT-Toolbox Project, which implements the voice control process with two software programs: Alexa Skill runs in the Amazon AWS Cloud and the CT-Toolbox Client runs on an Extron Control processor.

The KU has 235 rooms on campus equipped with Extron AV systems that include a desktop PC and monitor, and an Extron IN1608 xi IPCP presentation switcher with eight inputs and an integrated control processor on which the CT Toolbox works.

The CT Toolbox pilot project, which Harris, Henry and Moyer took on, exemplifies the university’s commitment to the Americans with Disabilities Act. This project, proposed by Computer Science and Information …
