STEM Students Rally Against Project Nimbus, Vow to Boycott Google and Amazon: Report

More than a thousand STEM students and young workers from over 120 universities have vowed not to work for Google or Amazon until the companies end their partnership with Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion contract providing cloud computing services to the Israeli government. Students from top schools like Stanford and UC Berkeley have joined the pledge, which was organized by NOTA, a coalition of tech workers and activists. Protesters recently demonstrated in front of Google’s San Francisco office against Project Nimbus, which has been linked to work for the Israeli military despite Google’s claims that it is not aimed at classified or military projects. Earlier this year, Google faced backlash and laid off over 50 employees after a sit-in protest against the project.
