In July, Microsoft released two Windows 11 updates, including the usual Patch Release on July 12, 2022 (KB5015814, OS Build 22000.795) and the preview update on July 21, 2022 (KB5015882, OS build 22000.832). Both updates are causing problems with the Start menu, preventing some devices from opening it. Microsoft has provided solutions to the problem, recommending a known issues rollback on Windows. This resolution may take up to 24 hours to appear, but restarting the device can help apply it faster. Company-managed devices can also resolve the issue by installing and configuring a special group policy found in Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > KB5014668 220721_04201 Rollback of known issues > Windows 11 (original version). Alternatively, users can try uninstalling the updates. The same issue also affects the KB5014668 preview update from June 23, 2022 (OS build 22000.778), so users on that version should also try rolling back known issues. The upcoming Patch Tuesday update in two weeks is expected to fix this issue. In the meantime, users can pause Windows Update to avoid receiving the problematic updates. Stay tuned for updates on the release of a fix.
