Stardew Valley Creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has announced Haunted Chocolatier, his next game. In Haunted Chocolatier, players become the next chocolatier to take over a local chocolate factory and shop that are located in a haunted castle.
Barone has a blog post on the Haunted Chocolatier websitedescribing the new game. “Chocolate represents that which is delightful. The haunted castle represents the charm of the unknown. The ghosts represent the imprint of the past. All of these things are important.”
Haunted Chocolatier shares the same art style as Stardew Valley, although according to the trailer it appears to be set in a bigger city with more characters. The trailer also shows the player gathering ingredients and fighting monsters in the wild before returning to their home to make chocolate. The chocolate was then sold in what appeared to be a ghost-run shop.
Barone added that while Haunted Chocolatier will evolve as it develops, the game’s main loop involves collecting ingredients, making chocolate, and selling the chocolate. He also said that while Stardew Valley was primarily a grounded experience, he wants to explore more fantastic elements with Haunted Chocolatier.
Barone made it clear that Haunted Chocolatier is still in the early stages of development and will not be finished for a long time. He did not announce platforms or a release window for Haunted Chocolatier. Barones previous game Stardew Valley has sold over 10 million copies since its publication.
