DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A packed gym at St. George Middle School signaled just how closely Dorchester County residents are watching Google’s two new data centers in the area.
Google invited residents of St. George and surrounding communities to a public meeting to ask questions and hear updates about the projects, which were announced in 2024.
Construction is expected to continue over the next couple of years. But Google said it is on schedule and anticipates portions of the two data centers will be operational later this year.

“It was a huge crowd, and it shows that the community is very, very interested in this,” said Timothy Lewis, a Harleyville resident.
Google representatives spent the evening addressing a wide range of questions, describing the meeting as part of an effort to build trust and provide more transparency about the projects.
