Data management software company Splunk has hired Shawn Bice, who currently manages Amazon Web Services’ database products, as the newly created President for Products and Technology.
Bice (pictured) reports to CEO Doug Merritt and oversees all of Splunk’s technical areas, including product, engineering, design and architecture operations, as well as the company’s CIO, CTO and chief information security officer functions.
Bice’s appointment on June 1 comes less than a month after former CTO Tim Tully left Splunk to partner with venture capital firm Menlo Ventures and that company’s Menlo XV fund for startups to oversee the early stage. Tully, who informed Splunk of his plans to leave on April 9 following a report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, had been Splunk’s CTO since August 2017.
