SOUTH BEND — Every ounce of water that makes its way into the South Bend Wastewater Treatment plant will flow back into the St. Joseph River, including all the water currently being used to cool the Amazon Web Services data center outside New Carlisle.

The wastewater treatment plant is designed to treat residential sewage, but Director of Wastewater Utility Kim Thompson said occasionally when a large industrial user moves into the area, the treatment plant will issue a short permit to monitor the flow patterns and contents of the wastewater.
