Alphabet’s Google is set to produce its Pixel smartphones in Tamil Nadu, India, in a partnership with Foxconn, as reported by two sources familiar with the matter. This move comes as companies seek to diversify their manufacturing operations beyond China. Foxconn currently assembles Apple iPhones in Tamil Nadu and Google’s decision to produce smartphones in the state is a separate investment from its partnership with Dixon to manufacture smartphones in India. The decision was made after Google executives met with state officials. Moneycontrol was the first to report on Google’s plans. At the time of reporting, Google, Foxconn, and the Tamil Nadu government had not yet responded to requests for comment.
