Soon finding the lost remote for your Google TV will be less of a hassle

Android 14 for TV has introduced a new feature called ‘Find My Remote,’ which allows users to locate lost remotes. This feature was initially thought to be exclusive to the Walmart Onn Google TV Pro, but it is actually part of the Android 14 update for television. By pressing a button on the streaming box, the remote will emit a sound and flash its LED light for 30 seconds, making it easier to locate. However, existing Google TVs may not support this feature if the remotes do not have the necessary hardware, such as a built-in speaker.

Android expert Mishaal Rahman discovered references to the Find My Remote feature in the latest version of the Android 14 emulator for Google TV. This tool is integrated into the Google TV platform, hinting that it may be rolled out to more streaming boxes in the future. Users can play a sound on their remote to locate it when the Find My Remote feature is enabled. Additionally, there is a button on the Google TV that can be pressed to activate the sound for 30 seconds, but this feature is only compatible with certain Google TV remotes.

While the Walmart Onn Google TV Pro does not run Android 14, it is based on a newer version of Android 12 for TV that includes the Find My Remote tool. It was hoped that voice commands could also be used to locate the remote, but this feature did not work on the Onn 4K Pro possibly due to a bug. It is important to note that the Find My Remote feature may not work on all existing Google TVs, especially if the remotes lack the necessary hardware.

Apple TV has had a similar remote finder tool for the Siri Remote for a while now, making it easier for users to locate their remotes. With Google bringing the Find My Remote feature to Google TV, it is a welcomed addition that will make it more convenient for users to find their lost remotes. Overall, the introduction of this feature by Google shows a commitment to improving user experience on their TV platform.
