SolarWinds Announces New Secure Software Development Process


IT management firm SolarWinds has unveiled a new secure software development process to make the company a model for enterprise software security, more than a year and a half after discovering that popular software had been compromised by a malicious update.

The SolarWinds Next-Generation Build System incorporates both new software development practices and technologies to strengthen the integrity of the build environment, including a parallel build process in which software is developed through multiple secure duplicate paths to provide a foundation for integrity to create checks.

According to the company, improvements to the software development and build process over the past year were made in response to the SUNBURST attack, a compromise of the company’s software build environment in which suspected Russian state-sponsored hackers injected malicious code into a spring 2020 update introduced the SolarWinds Orion platform.
