Almost two years after the release of iOS and iPadOS 13, which included native, built-in, and system-wide dark mode, Snapchat, one of the world’s most famous social media networks, has finally introduced a dark mode theme for iOS users.
Snapchat began testing a dark mode theme of its app design with a small group of iOS users late last year. According to Snapchat, as of this week, Snapchat has flipped the switch to access dark mode for more than 90% of its iOS users, giving millions of users access to the less strenuous app interface.
Snapchat offers three different types of “view” modes that iOS users can choose from. The first mode keeps a dark theme for the app regardless of the standard iOS system theme, the second mode keeps a light theme for the app, and the third mode corresponds to the iOS setting.
Snapchat users can turn on dark mode by doing the following: tap the Settings icon in the upper right corner, scroll through the list, tap App Appearance, then turn on either Always Dark, Always Light, or System to adjust”.
Dark mode for Android will be introduced in the coming months.
