If you spend any amount of time on LinkedIn, you’ve probably come across this phrase: “It’s not a job, it’s a calling” or “It’s not marketing, it’s a movement” or “It’s not a tool, it’s a paradigm shift.”
This sentence structure saturates the posts on the platform. It has become one of the most well-known patterns of AI-generated text: “It’s not X, it’s Y.”
If you’re like me, you find it annoying and scroll past it once you’ve read it. Your anger is justified. Negation can be a powerful literary device when used judiciously, but when it is undeserved it feels hollow.
