Corporate communication Platform Slack is launching a new audio tool designed to make communicating with colleagues a little easier while working from home, CEO Stewart Butterfield announced on Wednesday. The claman countdown. “

The new “Slack Huddles” features will enable employees to communicate verbally via the app, similar to a taxi switchboard or a police radio, as Butterfield explained.

“You may or may not be shown, but when you are on and someone is talking, you can hear it,” said the Slack CEO. “It’s a bit like you’re a few desks away from me and I’m screaming a question, everyone hears.”

HOW TO USE SLACK FOR YOUR COMPANY

Butterfield distinguished the tool from jumping on a Zoom call. Slack huddles can be quick, causal conversation hits rather than 30-minute, pre-scheduled virtual meetings on Zoom.

“It doesn’t replace Zoom in wholesale. We’re still a happy Zoom customer, ”he said. “More tools are needed to cover the full spectrum of interaction.”

Users have full control over access to the tool and can see who is participating in huddles. Butterfield described the feature as “really powerful” especially for smaller group discussions.

“We have moved from a world where people are thinking about digital technology as a complement to face-to-face meetings, to something the other way around,” he said. “And maybe we haven’t all realized that yet, but software is much more important to the way we work. As you saw in the pandemic, we could give up our offices, but not our software. “
