SINGAPORE: A man was sentenced Thursday (June 23) to 10 years in prison for posing as two others to trick Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google into selling about $5 worth of cloud computing services .4 million US dollars (S$7.6 million).
Ho Jun Jia, 32, also known as Matthew Ho, used two men’s personal and credit card information he obtained from a dark web forum to defraud both companies.
One of its victims was Marc Merrill, the co-founder of video game developer Riot Games.
Ho, who was unemployed at the time, used that computing power to mine about 1,468 units of the cryptocurrency ether between November 21, 2017 and March 1, 2018.
He later sold about 203 units of the illegally obtained ether and earned more than S$347,000, which he spent on personal expenses.
In March, he pleaded guilty to 12 counts, including felonies under the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act and impersonation fraud.
His total sentence is three years and five months in prison for consumption…
