A difficult start to 2026 for Microsoft. The Windows-maker has been deluged with update problems as mandatory security fixes are pushed out to a billion-plus PC owners. And none have been as awkward as PCs that cannot even shutdown.
Microsoft has responded to the torrent of headlines following multiple bugs and emergency updates with an assurance that it is “working to rebuild trust in Windows.” The company’s engineers, The Verge reports, “are now focusing on performance, reliability, and the overall Windows experience.”
Last year, Microsoft finally fixed an aged flaw affecting Windows 10 and Windows 11, where selecting update and shut down” would “update and restart” instead. This seemed to shut down the “decades-old bug,” as described by Windows Latest.
