Top file sharing app SHAREit claims to have fixed a number of security vulnerabilities in its Android app that could have put up to a billion potentially vulnerable users at risk.
The developers of the apps released a patch earlier this month for several security holes that were first discovered by the security company Trend Micro. This could have allowed attackers to access data stored on SHAREit user devices and execute arbitrary code on the device.
The vulnerabilities could have been present and vulnerable for over three months, putting many SHAREit users at risk.

“On February 15, 2021, we received a report from Trend Micro about potential security vulnerabilities in our app,” said SHAREit in a press release.
“The security of our app and our users’ data is of the utmost importance to us,” added SHAREit. “We are determined to protect user privacy and security and adapt our app to address security threats.”
